December Ministry Update 2006

"...I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he in Christ** the Lord." Luke 2:10-11 NIV

**or Messiah.  "The Christ"(Greek) and "the Messiah"(Hebrew) both mean "the Anointed One".

Making Himself Known....

Hello family, friends, and ministry partners,

Merry Christmas to you all!!!

Due to technical difficulties, it's taking a while for getting Internet and phone service set up in my new apartment so my computer is not accessible to the Internet.  Therefore, I won't be able to produce my normal type of prayer letter this month.

Recently we held our first "Who is Zolder50!", which was our church's first introduction to who we are and what we are doing (and sort of like a membership course)!  It was a nice time of introducing people to our church community and also encouraging to hear from many that they want to make Zolder50 their church home.

The vision statement of Zolder50 reflects our heart to grow community, develop spiritual depth and build the Kingdom of God--

Our vision is Jesus: Knowing Him, Becoming like Him, and Making Him Known.

Monday, December 18th we moved all of our church's belongings from the storage unit and old church office space into our new ministry center on the Herengracht 88. This was a big day and sounds like a formal step to settling in. Over the past few weeks we have seen a lot of construction, done a lot of cleaning, filling holes, scraping, and painting, however, because the fire Marshall requires that we install special fire resistant doors (which are on back order until mid-January) we won't really be able to unpack and settle in until construction and painting (and door installation) are complete -- sometime toward the end of January.

We are anxiously awaiting the use of our new ministry location to allow Jesus to make Himself known to all who enter through our worship gatherings, small groups, one-on-one ministry times, and different ways we hope to serve the city through this space.  We would appreciate your prayers in this process.  God is faithful and continues to provide a temporary location for us to meet here in the city while we're waiting.

"For my eyes have seen your salvation, which you have prepared in the sight of all people, a light for revelation to the Gentiles and for glory to your people Israel." Luke 2:30-32 NIV

Over the past 9 months I have had the pleasure of assisting a Dutch missionary with an English translation of a story she has written on Paul's life (mostly from the book of Acts). She wanted a native English speaker to read the text and offer corrections before sending it to Myanmar, Papua, Ghana, Indonesia, Israel and other places the Lord will take it for evangelists in those countries to translate the message into their own language.  Last month I was able to meet Simon, a Pastor from Burma/Myanmar, who will take this tool with him when he returns to his country.  And, in January, this message will be used in an outreach in Israel.

Please pray with Ine (my missionary friend) and me that this text and Jesus making Himself known through the radical change in the life of Paul will be an effective tool for the gospel all over the world!

"For if there had been nothing wrong with that first covenant, no place would have been sought for another. But God found fault with the people and said: 'the time is coming, declares the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah. It will not be like the covenant I made with their forefathers when I took them by the hand to lead them out of Egypt, because they did not remain faithful to my covenant, and I turned away from them, declares the Lord. This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after that time, declares the Lord. I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people. No longer will a man teach his neighbor, or a man his brother, saying, 'Know the Lord', because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest. For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.' By calling this covenant 'new,' he has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and aging will soon disappear." Hebrews 8:7-13 NIV

May the beautiful season of Christmas remind all of us of God's purpose for sending His Son (as the new covenant)... so that He can make Himself known to all the world.

Thank you for your prayers and support.

God bless you abundantly in 2007,
