January Ministry Update 2011

Greetings from Amsterdam,

As the New Year gets under way here’s a reflection of some of the accomplishments Amsterdam50 and Great Commission Ministries Netherlands experienced in 2010:

  • Adjusted well to our name change - from Zolder50 to Amsterdam50
  • Took 20 people to Italy for a week of camping and experiential learning with the “Into the Wilderness” program
  • New website was launched
  • New interim associate pastor who assisted
  • 2 new European members joined our Servant Leadership Council
  • Ended the year with a significant Amsterdam50 (church) budget surplus
  • Amsterdam50 began to supplement a portion of the Pastor’s salary
  • Transitioned our small group ministry from Home Groups to Communities
  • Trained 8 people for “coaching” and began a coaching pool for communities
  • 2 Dutch leaders experienced their first teaching opportunities during our Sunday worship gatherings
  • There were 3 weddings and 2 babies born within Amsterdam50
  • 6 people prayed to receive Christ as Lord of their life
  • 1 US intern joined us for the summer
  • Increased level of quality in our Sunday worship gatherings including: music, teachings, and hospitality
  • Offered 2 coaching seminars
  • One of the Social Justice Communities (Matthew 25) multiplied
  • Ongoing involvement in local initiatives - Serve the City and HiP
  • Initiated a vision refinement process, which included seeking outside consultation
  • Began pursuing a new contract on our church building’s rental space
  • 4 of the GCM Netherlands' staff experienced successful home service leaves
  • Hosted the GCGF (Great Commission Global Fellowship) summit
  • Hosted some of the GCM board members for a long weekend
  • Hosted 2 breakfasts for the leaders of the English speaking church leaders in Amsterdam
  • Sent 2 mission scouts to a Kenyan orphanage establishing a partnership with Kenya Matters
  • A handful of people attended Awaken 2010 in Spain

We praise God for all He did and is doing within this ministry in Amsterdam. Thank you for the role you play, whether through prayer, financial giving or both for God’s work through Great Commission Ministries.

Serve the City

Thank you for your prayers for the Winter edition of Serve the City, which occurred on December 21st and January 8th. These 2 days were filled with an abundance of serving, giving and caring. Please pray that God’s love continues to shine throughout Amsterdam and touches hearts in a powerful way.

Whether through giving away "free flowers and Teddy Bear hugs", collecting food for the local Food Bank, painting or spending time with the sick or elderly, the more than 200 volunteers enjoyed nice days serving the city together!

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed being a part of Serve the City’s core team and look forward to working on our May edition. If you’re interested in seeing more photos, etc go to the Serve the City website.

Cultural Connection - "Canals"

Amsterdam has the world’s greatest number of bridges, which means there are numerous canals and rivers. Enjoy viewing some examples in the photos below of this cultural uniqueness:

Many blessings in 2011!

Serving Him together with you,

Linda
