May Ministry Update

Greetings from Amsterdam,

This month I will be sharing a “new season” focus in the update – one new establishment within the ministry of Amsterdam50 and the other a recent historical event here in the Netherlands.

Servant Leadership Council

Amsterdam50 has completed a 4 month process resulting in the establishment of a new Servant Leadership Council (SLC). The church was asked to provide nominations of people whom they felt could lead effectively and provide oversight to Amsterdam50. There were 26 individuals nominated. Of those nominated, 12 people were willing to consider the task and be interviewed. A number of those interviewed seriously considered serving Amsterdam50 (A50) in this way, but due to time or life constraints chose not to be a part at this time.

There were three who were willing to join our Pastor John in serving in this capacity and they are:

Please pray for John, Sean, Patricia and myself (Linda) for wisdom, discernment, and unity as we step forward in this new season of A50 as servant leaders.
  • Sean Filidis
  • Patricia Flynn
  • Linda Kitchen

A50’s vision is to know Jesus, become like Him, and make Him known in the world.

The purpose of the SLC is to provide spiritual guidance and practical oversight as the church carries out this vision. Working with the pastor and our network of community leaders, the SLC oversees A50’s ministries. The primary goal of all ministries is to provide the care and nurture of all who participate in the vision of A50.

The SLC will function differently than it has in the past years. Instead of mainly being a “think tank” to give insight to the Pastor, the new SLC will be responsible for and actively involved in overseeing the ministries within A50. The SLC is open to people joining later as it makes sense for their lives.

Specifically, the SLC provides oversight of five key areas or rhythms in the life of our church and all related programs and events:

  • Worship (our growth through praise to the living God)
  • Instruction (our growth through teaching)
  • Fellowship (our growth through life-on-life relationships with each other)
  • Expression (our growth in mission and reaching out to those beyond our community)
  • Resources for ministry (our growth in giving money, time and talents)
Please pray for Amsterdam50 that we would grow spiritually and with a serving spirit within our church to put the needs of others ahead of our own. Also, that God would help us to be faithful in making disciples, also to the 2nd and 3rd generation.

Thank you for your prayers and giving to Great Commission Ministries.

I’m blessed to serve with you for God’s Kingdom work,

NOTE: This month I decided to add a “cultural report” on a big event that took place here in the Netherlands a few weeks ago.

This two-page PDF (which you can download by clicking either the link to the left or clicking here) will give you a glimpse as to the festivities. Enjoy!
