November/December Ministry Update

Greetings from Amsterdam,

May the joy of the Lord be present in a new fresh way during this beautiful time of the year, as we have thankful and expectant hearts for the celebration of Immanuel!

All this happened to fulfil what the Lord had said through the prophet—‘Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel’. (“Immanuel” means “God with us.”) Matthew 1:22-23 Phillips

Thankfulness & Prayers

I was blessed to take a woman from my small group Community on November 27th to witness the touching Thanksgiving Day service at the Pieterskerk in Leiden, where the pilgrims departed for the “New World” in 1620. I am so thankful those brave men, women and children were willing to endure that tremendous challenge in order to freely worship and practice their faith in Jesus Christ.

At Amsterdam50 we are thankful for a new brother in Christ, Ajit! Please pray for the protection of Ajit’s new faith. In addition, over the past 6 weeks there have been a number of new folks coming around to fellowship and explore their faith walk with us. What a beautiful spiritual journey we’re all on. Please pray for God to open each person’s heart to His truths, love and forgiveness.

I’m thankful to report that my mother, Ilse, has received a clean bill of health at her recent check up following last year’s heart procedure. My father, Alan, will be having a follow up PET scan on January 6th. Please pray that the Lymphoma remains in remission. If this is the case then I will be pursuing making travel arrangements for my parents to visit me in the early spring of 2015. Also, I’d appreciate prayers for my father’s legs to strengthen. Following last year’s chemotherapy he lost so much strength and muscle mass that it’s been difficult to stay upright at all times while walking, etc. He’s using a good exercise routine, but results are coming slowly.

Finally, I’m so thankful for two special women in my life from Orlando, Michelle and Kathy, who have been dealing with cancer. Prayers appreciated:

Michelle – battling colon cancer for more than 4 years, that God would touch her body and bring healing, including a solution for the swelling and rash due to current treatments; help her to surrender her fears, control, and any hold she has on this present world. Pray for great trust in the Lord, relying fully on Him. She’s asked for prayer to finish up the paperwork and any unfinished business that hangs over her head. Finally, prayers for Michelle to “finish her race” with the Spirit's power, focus and timeliness on any ministry work with Campus Crusade.

Kathy – after surgery & 7 weeks of daily radiation, she is cancer free ~Praise the Lord! For the next 5 years she’ll be on post-cancer medication to limit the possibility of the cancer returning. Please pray for no negative side effects and minimal effect on bone density.

Kenya Mission Trip

I will be in Karai, Kenya during the last 2 weeks of December celebrating Christmas with 32 orphan kids.

Please pray for:

  • traveling mercies (depart Amsterdam on 16th and return on 31st)
  • strength, creativity, energy and wisdom;
  • that the Nativity Play will be a powerful visual representation of God’s love through the incarnation;
  • for the guardians who will visit on Christmas day that they enjoy the party and be touched by the Holy Spirit;
  • For God’s love to shine brightly through every activity we do, including reading, story times, writing, singing, bible study, decorating, devotions, crafts, playing games, working on the Nativity play and each conversation.

May the joy of Immanuel be yours this season,
